Unique Features of the PFMP

  • The Internship
The PFMP is the first of its kind to require and arrange summer internships in French-speaking countries, as a degree requirement. The internship is 8-12 weeks in duration and is in an international business or organization directly related to the student's concentration area.
  • Student-Centered Flexibility
PFMP students have a great deal of creative control over their individual programs of study. Each student has regular individual advising, in addition to access to mentoring from the PFMP External Advisory Board.
  • Study Tracks
The PFMP`s core program, the Full-Time Academic Track, is an intensive course of study leading to the MFS in one calendar year. There is also a Summer Institute Track, designed for teachers and working professionals.
  • Language Proficiency
All students graduating from the PFMP meet stringent oral and written proficiency requirements.
  • National and International Contacts
The PFMP has partnerships with groups as diverse as the Trade Commissions of France and Belgium, KINO Montréal, Kohler Company, Promega Corporation, Interworks, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, the Commission Européenne (Marseille), Université Laval (Québec), the Ministère des relations internationales du Québec, Médecins du Monde (Paris), the West African Research Association (Sénégal), and the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, among others.
  • Single Program Fee
PFMP program fees replaces University of Wisconsin graduate tuition and are the same for every student, regardless of Wisconsin residency status.
